Ever evolving and always in flux, welcome to the place where cultures, people, art and music from all over Africa intersect and overlap. Hallmark House drops a pin right in the centre of that famous JHB energy. If a hallmark is a stamp of authenticity, Hallmark Hotel is an icon of Johannesburg at is truest, and aims to hero the artists, makers, creators and hustlers that have always made the city what it is.
From ‘999’ the roof top bar, with three-sixty views over all the city icons, to the Marabi (jazz) Club in the basement, Hallmark House is the best place to get under the skin of this city, and a platform to express the love of the real, layered, complex and beautifully unapologetic Johannesburg.
VIEW OUR ROOMS
Industrial edge meets modern chic at Hallmark Hotel. Ideal for business or leisure guests, Hallmark is close to the Johannesburg CBD and some of the city’s irresistible attractions and nightlife. Forty-six rooms, each with views of the bustling city, feature carefully selected art installations, modern fittings and brightly printed African textiles.
THE HOTEL RESTAURANT
Our street-facing restaurant and favourite neighbourhood gathering point. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and room service. Coffee and/or drinks, Thorn is the un-official hangout for residents, hotel guests and friends of Hallmark House.
THE ICONIC JHB ROOFTOP
Part gallery, part restaurant, all round views… The top floor, with its stylish spaces and rooftop pool, hosts avant-garde shows, pop-up events, and those infamous Sunday brunches that turn into sunset lunches. Always surrounded by Johannesburg’s incomparable views and sounds. Local tip: visit 999 during a thunderstorm.
THE LOCAL BARBER
From fades to braids and close shaves, this is grooming with a side of whiskey, cigars and the sound of jazz in the air. ‘Under’ Hallmark House and next to the famous Marabi Club, Cutter’s Barbershop is a unisex grooming experience specialising in men’s styling. Order a pizza while you wait, and keep your eyes peeled for a ‘secret’ door.
THE JAZZ CLUB & RESTAURANT
A throwback experience in the underbelly of the hotel harks back to the soundtrack of bygone eras of Johannesburg’s rich history of jazz and dance. Accessed from the street by a small black metal door, experience a magical blur of the finest food, friendly staff and live music and performances that makes this one of the city’s must-see cultural ticks. Don’t be afraid to open the dance floor. It’s never too early (or too late).
